Hey, I’m Tanisha.
I’m a recent graduate & emerging professional with a demonstrated interest in socio-environmental justice, public policy, biodiversity conservation, and impact storytelling.
I’m Tanisha (she/her/hers), and I recently graduated from UC San Diego (Scripps Institution of Oceanography) with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Policy and a minor in Literature/Writing.
Growing up between Connecticut and Mumbai, I developed a strong desire to help combat the pressing issues I witnessed firsthand, starting with sustainability. Consistently distressed about the looming prospect of “climate doom,” I interned at Mumbai’s top veterinary clinic and launched my own sustainability-focused podcast series in high school. During college, I interned at leading global conservation organization Sea Shepherd (learn more about my work here), worked on climate curriculum development programs, and began writing my own book focused on showcasing the accomplishments of environmental change-makers across the globe. Currently, I’m working as Impact & Outreach Coordinator at Turtle Walker, an upcoming award-winning documentary film focused on environmental storytelling.
But my interests go far beyond environmental impact. From a young age, all my projects and passions have been driven by a single overarching philosophy: mending the world. It was this spirit that drove me to found my own mental wellness initiative during the pandemic, work on impact programs that helped fight gender stereotypes, and spend more than a decade actively working to improve child rights in low-income communities in India.
I am also drawn to opportunities that allow me to build community by telling powerful stories and creating space for all. Through my creative writing and role as a Teaching Assistant for an Environmental Racism class, I aim to lend a voice to the traditionally voiceless. Serving as a Resident Advisor allowed me to bring hundreds of students together through my events targeted at fostering meaningful relationships. I further honed this skill as Special Events Assistant at Birch Aquarium, where I managed large-scale events to provide ongoing funding for aquarium conservation operations.
In my free time, you will likely find me sipping coffee, reading, spending time in nature, or cuddling with my cat + dog :)
